Concept Fitness

Image
During the past two months, I joined a new gym called Concept Fitness .  My brother and I joined this gym together so that we could have a special experience to bond through now that I have moved out.  Concept fitness is a circuit based gym. We do a lot of different exercises  to incorporate different parts of the body.  This gym puts a heavy emphasis on rowing. Rowing is a great exercise because it uses a lot of different muscles in your body even though it is cardio -based.  The other great part of Concept Fitness is that there is a trainer  that coaches you through the different moments and pushes you to always work harder.  The trainers get to know your strengths and give you the correct weight for your body.  Lastly, my favorite thing about Concept Fitness is that it is located on the water and you have a beautiful view of the ocean while you are working out.  Vocabulary: Fitness: (noun) Health Circuit: (noun)  an act or instance of going or moving around. Exercise: (noun)  bodily

Dancing with the Star

Image
Every Tuesday my friend and I watch Dancing with the Stars .  It is a show where famous celebrities learn how to ballroom dance.    Each celebrity is paired with a  professional dancer that teaches them a new dance style every week. Celebrities learn styles of dance such as the Foxtrot, the Chacha, Pasodoble, and many others.   Each week the couple perform and a judged by three judges. Each judge can give a score out of 10 out of a perfect score of 30. It is very exciting to watch your favorite celebrity on TV and root for them during their journey on the show. As the weeks progress, the dances get better and better and the score gets higher.   It is a fun show to watch as the competition dwindles down.  Vocabulary: Celebrities: : (noun) people that are famous Ballroom Dance: (noun) different styles of paired dancing Professional: (adjective) someone extremely skilled in their occupation   Style:  (noun) different types of dances Perform: (verb) to showcase one's skills Judged

Moving to Long Beach

Image
On October 22, I finally was able to move into my new house that is located in Long Beach, New York.  The day I moved in was very exciting for me! I remember being super excited about moving in with my two best friends in an amazing area of Long Beach called West End.  The best part about this location is that it is a block away from the beach .  It is located on a one-way street.  My new house is small. It has three bedrooms, one bathroom, and a large kitchen and living room. The front of the house has a  porch and a red door. We have a lot of space to hang out in our living room with our friends. This has been really nice during this COVID crisis because we have been able to hang out together in our new place.   My house is locating in the middle of Beech Street.  Beech Street is a block filled with lots of storefronts , restaurants, bars, and coffee shops. That is the best part because everything is within walking distance of my house.  My friends have really enjoyed coming ov

Volleyball Fun!

Image
A favorite sport to play of mine is Volleyball .  I played volleyball every summer for the past 6 years.  I had a team with 10 to 15 of my good friends .  We used to play every Tuesday night on the beach .  We would drive to Long Beach around 5:30 every day. We used to take turns driving.  My friends and I would set up on the beach around our court with beach chairs and a couple of beers.  We usually played against two other teams.  We would choose 6 players to start and substitute in a new player every time we got to the serving spot. My favorite spot to be in was the front row because I was able to set to the boys on my team so that they could spike the ball over the net.  My team was not very good but we always had so much fun playing.  Vocabulary Words: Volleyball: (noun)  a game for two teams in which the object is to keep a large  ball  in motion, from side to side over a high net, by striking it with the hands before it touches the ground. Team: (noun)  a number of persons

Football Sunday's

Image
In America, it is very common for people to watch football on Sundays .  The games usually start at 1:00.  Most people watch games at bars  or restaurants.   Some people choose to watch Sunday football at home on their large television.  I prefer to watch games at restaurant bars because I love how exciting and intense people get while watching  the games.  I also feel that it is fun to watch games with and friends and also with strangers.  You get to meet a lot of new people while watching the games.  I usually enjoy ordering some type of food while watching.  The most popular food to eat while watching games at a bar are chicken wings.  People usually get a beer or two while watching.  I really enjoy football Sundays and cheering on my favorite team, The New York Jets, even if they always lose!  Vocabulary words: Football: (noun)  a game in which two opposing teams of 11 players each defend goals at opposite ends of a field having goal posts at each end, with points being scored c

A Success Story

A Success Story... My best experience working with ELL students was when I was student teaching in Manhattan. I worked with a second-grade student in paragraph writing.  I was successful in working with this student because I was able to work in a small group with her and two other students.  The assignment was to write a personal narrative about your favorite sport.  The lesson was about 3 days long with an emphasis on paragraph writing using a hamburger graphic organizer .  The end result was to create a 5 sentence paragraph about her favorite sport.  The reason the lessons were so successful was that each lesson was scaffolded with a lot of visual support which really helped her. I provided the ELL student with multiple hamburger graphic organizer.  The first lesson was specifically focused on the parts of a paragraph.  We went through how writing a paragraph was like eating a burger and that certain parts needed to be included. The next lesson was me modeling how to fill in

Remote Learning

Image
Verbs- Post 2    This year, I was newly hired at school in Astoria, New York.   I was placed in a 4th-grade class with both general and special ed students.  My immediate reaction to this news was that I was a bit nervous.  I had never had an integrated class. My only and prior experience was with a self-contained special education class with only 12 students.  This was going to be a new and exciting experience for me and I could not wait to start working .  I later found out that this was not going to be my only challenge.  A few days later I found out from the principal that I was going to be teaching a remote learning class that was strictly online with no in-person instruction.  The requirements for remote learning include; students being on online meets every day from 8:30 to 1:55, students actively participating daily and completing online assignments, and following the same daily rules as they would in an in-school classroom.  I immediately felt nervous for both myself and t
